Universitatea Babeș-Bolyai Cluj-Napoca
Babeș-Bolyai University (UBB), located in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, is the country's oldest, largest, and one of its most research-intensive public universities. With academic roots going back to 1581, UBB spans 23 faculties covering the natural sciences, mathematics and computer science, engineering, social sciences, and humanities, and has repeatedly been ranked the best Romanian university in the national metaranking. The University's Office for Open Science coordinates the institutional efforts to make research more transparent and accessible, managing institutional data repositories and interconnecting them with major European repositories, and promoting open access publishing through the Diamond/Platinum model, which ensures research results are disseminated without added costs for authors or readers. It has also pioneered Citizen Science in Romania, developing (together with partners from the economic sector) the country's first national Citizen Science platform, which connects UBB researchers with citizens and enables them to launch or take part in research projects. The next step in this direction is to further connect researchers and students with the public through on- and offline science communication and hands-on engagement initiatives.
