Sara Varela Amaral is a science communication professional and researcher with over 15 years of experience in promoting scientific literacy, particularly in the biomedical field. With a background in Biochemistry and a PhD in Biosciences (Science Communication), she combines scientific expertise with a strategic and creative approach to public engagement.
She currently leads science communication at CNC-UC and CiBB, developing initiatives that bring science closer to society. Her work and research interests include art and science, public engagement, citizen science, biomedical education projects, impact evaluation of science communication, and public trust in science.
Sara is involved in national and European science communication projects, has published work in the field, and maintains an active presence in conferences and international networks. She is an active member of SciComPT, contributing to the science communication community in Portugal.
With extensive experience in project coordination and training, she develops innovative, inclusive initiatives with measurable impact, fostering a closer, more informed, and participatory relationship between science and society.
