Science in the City is a science and arts festival run annually in Malta by the University of Malta and the Malta Chamber of Scientists in collaboration with a consortium of NGOs, government bodies, industry sponsors and other partners.Besides showing that science is fun, exciting and essential to a better quality of life and that creativity and critical thinking are extremely important in today’s world, we aim to show our audience how important it is that we all take responsibility for our actions. And what better way to do so, than to be informed and knowledgeable about the latest in scientific developments? Our biggest night, European Researchers night, attracts over 6% of the population.

Each year we will the streets of Valletta with arts and entertainment all linked to science. The event welcomes citizens to participate in interactive street art installations, science busking, music, art exhibitions, children’s puppet shows, live experiments, talks, comedies, theatre and much more.

Apart from this festival, the University organises open days that yearly reach over 1000 students, a research magazine called Think, and several other science communication and engagement activities as part of the numerous EU projects it attracts.

The University of Malta was founded in 1592. It is the highest teaching institution of the State. Conscious of its public role, the University strives to create courses which are relevant and timely in response to the national, regional and international needs. The University has been involved as coordinator and partner in numerous EU-funded projects under various Programmes and also represented in a number of European and international University networks and groups.
