Lublin Science Festival

Pl. Marii Curie-Skłodowskiej 5, 20-031 Lublin

The history of the Lublin Science Festival goes back to the beginning of the 20th century. The first edition took place on October 4-7, 2001 and was initiated by Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin. Three years later, on May 21, 2004, the Rectors of five Lublin Universities together with the Director of the Institute of Agrophysics of the Polish Academy of Sciences signed a declaration at the headquarters of the Lublin Scientific Society, in which they established the Lublin Science Festival as a cyclical event popularizing science in society. Today, the Lublin Science Festival is one of the three largest science festivals in Poland. Over more than two decades, more than 20,000 research, educational, and artistic projects have been submitted and presented, attracting over 700,000 participants.

In 2022, the Lublin Science Festival was awarded the title of a laureate in the final of the Science Popularizer 2022 competition in the „Team” category. The official awards ceremony for the 18th edition of the competition took place on December 9, 2022, at the PAP Press Center in Warsaw. This prestigious Science Popularizer competition has been organized since 2005 by the Science in Poland service of the Polish Press Agency, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Science.

The aim of the Festival is to disseminate, promote, and popularize science and scientific research across society; to spark curiosity and foster interest in science among children, youth, and adults through projects carried out by universities, research institutions, and public organizations; and to encourage integration and collaboration between the local community and the scientific and creative circles of the Lublin region. Through the decades, the Lublin Science Festival has become a permanent fixture in the calendar of Lublin’s scientific and cultural events. It combines the promotion of science with the region’s social and economic development, illustrating the connection between science and everyday life. At the same time, it creates new development opportunities within and for the region’s economy through the effective application of existing knowledge and innovation in various fields of science and technology by diverse investment entities. It also contributes to strengthening the intellectual and socio-economic potential of the entire Lublin Region.

The 21st edition of the Lublin Science Festival will take place from 13 to 19 September 2025, under the theme „Life Engineering”. The main organizer of the event is Lublin University of Technology.
