Danish Science Factory in brief.

The organization The Danish Science Factory was established on January the 1st 2001 by the organization behind the Danish Science Week. It is an independent, non-profit organization aiming to create excitement about science and technology by creating new and innovating initiatives in science communication towards young people.

The board holds representatives from the industry, universities, science centers, schools and other educational institutions.

The daily operations are conducted by a secretariat with 17 full-time employees and app. 12 students with backgrounds in science and communication.

The Danish Government meets app. 10% of the operating expenses. The remaining operational funds are obtained by sponsorships and donations from companies and organizations.

The main activity for the Danish Science Factory is to coordinate a yearly nationwide science festival that takes place every year. One third of the primary schools and half the secondary schools in Denmark are participating in the activities of the festival. Between the science festivals a number of other initiatives are launched - of which the most important are:

- Co-ordination of all climate education initiatives in connection with the UN climate summit in Copenhagen 2009
- Science on Stage teachers conference 2011
- Young Scientists competition
- Networks between schools, industry and local government
- Teacher training in innovative science teaching
- Campaigns and consultancy work
