Airline Routes to Cork

 

Cork Airport is just 10 minutes’ drive from Cork City and is accessible via bus (departing from Parnell Place Bus Station which is 5 minutes’ walk from CSM (conference venue), and car/taxi.  The international airport has flights to/from 40 direct route destinations to the UK and continental Europe. There are daily services to London Heathrow and Amsterdam Schiphol which are global hubs.

Getting to Cork from an international point of origin is easy, with options including flying directly into Cork’s well-connected international airport or via sea directly to Cork’s harbour. Cork is home to the second largest natural harbour in the world and is very well serviced by regular ferry operations.

Airline Check Ins

Be sure that you have read the check in requirements for your airline.  Many encourage smart phone check in within 2 days of departure. Please also be sure you know your baggage allowance.   Most budget airlines will be very restrictive on your size of luggage in the cabin, and charge in advance for checked bags, so be sure you have checked in advance to avoid any unexpected fees.

Means of Transportation

Bus and coaches leave from in front of the airport and ferry terminal buildings. The normal journey time between Cork Airport and Parnell Place Bus Station is 20 minutes.

The normal journey time between the Ferry Terminal at Ringaskiddy and Parnell Place Bus Station is 30 minutes

From Cork Airport:

The taxi rank is located directly outside the terminal building. The cost from Cork Airport to Cork city centre and the main bus and railway stations is around €20.

To Cork Airport:

Passengers arriving by taxi will be set down directly in front of the terminal on the check-in level. The taxi fare from Cork city centre is approx. €15-20.

Within Ireland, Cork is extremely well connected via road and rail and almost anywhere on the island of Ireland can be reached in under 5 hours.

Cork city is compact and local locations are easily accessible by foot. The City also has a growing network of cycleways and a public bicycle scheme makes bikes available for residents and visitors.

Car Hire (If applicable)

Most care rental companies will need you to bring the exact credit card used to make your original booking in addition to your driving licence.  Please check the requirements carefully, especially know your insurance terms in advance.

Accommodation

The CIT Cork School of Music is located directly in Cork city centre, a variety of accommodation types are accessible via modest walks, taxis or through regular and inexpensive public transportation links.

Sustainability

Please bring a ‘keep cup’ for cold beverages; participants will be encouraged to refill them from the water stations; water stations are provided throughout the Cork School of Music, Nano Nagle and at Blackrock Castle to cut plastic water bottle usage.

There are 10 water fountains at the CSM site, two on each floor of the building. At the restaurant all cups, lids, stirrers, napkins, cutlery etc are compostable.

CSM has recycling bins and general waste bins on each floor of the building as well as throughout the restaurant.

 

With the objective of improving its energy efficiency by 33% by 2020, Cork Institute of Technology is in partnership with the Sustainable Energy Association of Ireland (SEAI) Engaging People Programme and the Office of Public Works (OPW) Optimising Power @ Work Public Sector Programme.

CIT has been awarded ISO 50001 accreditation for its sustainability efforts.

Cork is recognised as the food capital of Ireland and the LOC would encourage delegates to go out into the city to explore, to eat and to meet the locals as much as possible.
